Our very own Professor Ian Meredith answers the question: “In your opinion, what are the main reasons for the continuing high mortality rate associated with acute coronary syndromes?”
The team and patients at Melbourne Heart Care all mourn the sudden and sad loss of our much-loved colleague, friend and dedicated practitioner, Dr Paul Antonis.
Paul had an amazing presence and there was never a dull moment when he was consulting at Brighton or Linacre.
His knowledge, caring nature, generosity, sense of humour and smiling face will be missed by us all here at Melbourne Heart Care every day.
To Michelle, Thomas, Madeleine, Patra, Robert and Simon we extend our deepest condolences and share in your grief.
We would like to congratulate Professor Ian Meredith for being awarded a Member (AM) in the Order of Australia in the General Division, in the Australia Day Honours list for 2012.
Ian received the honour for his services to medicine in the field of cardiology as a clinician and researcher and for his role in public health.
A founding member of Melbourne Heart Care, Ian heaped praise on his team:
“I’ve had a really blessed and charmed career. I’ve worked with many fabulous people and learnt from many great people and it’s afforded me the opportunity to excel.”
Ian’s recognition comes 15 years after establishing Melbourne Heart Care, where he hopes to continue providing State-of-the-Art, patient focused clinical care for many more.
Our own Dr.Paul Antonis featured on channel 10 and 7 News this week, discussing the amazing story of one of Melbourne Heartcare’s patients Beverly; a 67 year old mother of two and ice skater, who had a massive heart attack whilst on the ice.
After Dr Antonis operated on her she was back on the ice just 7 weeks later. Below is some footage of the report.
Melbourne Heart Care staff recently visited Vava’u in Tonga to join a team scanning schoolchildren for Rheumatic Heart Disease (RHD). We have put together this short film of footage taken from the trip and of Toa Fakakovikaetau, the Paediatrician who set up the program 3 years ago.
